
Herbed Green Onion Bread - Bread Machine
Ingredients
1 1/2 pound* Loaf - (16 slices)
- 1/2 cup green onions thinly sliced
- 1/2 tsp basil dried, crushed
- 1/2 tsp thyme dried, crushed
- 1/4 tsp rosemary dried, crushed
- 2 tbs butter cut up
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 3 cups bread flour
- 2 tbs sugar
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
2 pound* Loaf (22 slices)
- 3/4 cup green onions thinly sliced
- 3/4 tsp basil dried, crushed
- 3/4 tsp thyme dried, crushed
- 1/4 tsp rosemary dried, crushed
- 3 tbs butter cut up
- 1 1/3 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 4 cups bread flour
- 3 tbs sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast or bread machine yeast
Instructions
- select the loaf size. In a small skillet cook green onions, basil, thyme, and rosemary in butter until green onions are tender, stirring occasionally
- Cool slightly. add green onions mixture and the remaining ingredients to the bread machine according to the manufacturer's directions. Select the basic white bread cyc.e
- To make breadsticks, cut a thick slice of bread into strips. Brush the bread with melted butter and aditional herbs. Broil the breadsticks until golden brown, turning often
- *Nite: For the 1-1/2-pount loaf, the bread machine pan must have a capacity of 10 cups or more. For the 2-pound loaf, the bread machine pan must have a capacity of 12 cups or more.
- **Note: Our Test Kitchen recommends 1/4 tsp dried rosemary and 1 egg for either size loaf.
Notes
If you grow your own herbs, take advantage of their fresh flavor by substituting them for the dried form. For the 1-1/2 pound loaf use 1 1/2 tsp each of snipped fresh basil, thyme and 3/4 tsp snipped rosemary. For the 2-pound loaf, use 2 1/4 tsp each snipped fresh basil and thyme, and 3/4 tsp snipped rosemary.
