
BREAD PUDDING
Ingredients
- 4 eggs slightly beaten
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 cups bread cubes day old
- 1/2 cup brown sugar or white sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- Whiskey sauce (optional)
Whiskey sauce
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk beaten
- 2 tbs water
- 2 tbs Bourbon
Instructions
- Combine eggs, milk, Vanilla, Cinnamon and salt; stir in bread cubes. Stir in brown sugar & raisins. Pour mixture into 8 x 1 3/4 inch round ovenware cake dish.
- Place cake dish in large shallow pan on oven rack; pour hot water into larger pan, 1 inch deep.
- Bake at 350* about 45 minutes or until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Makes 6 servings
Whiskey sauce
- In a small saucepan melt butter. Stir in sugar, egg yolk and water. Cook and stir constantly over medium-low heat for 5 to 6 minutes or until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Remove from heat and stir in bourbon. Serve warm. Ladle over bread pudding.
