BREAD PUDDING

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs slightly beaten
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups bread cubes day old
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar or white sugar
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • Whiskey sauce (optional)

Whiskey sauce

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk beaten
  • 2 tbs water
  • 2 tbs Bourbon

Instructions

  • Combine eggs, milk, Vanilla, Cinnamon and salt; stir in bread cubes. Stir in brown sugar & raisins. Pour mixture into 8 x 1 3/4 inch round ovenware cake dish.
  • Place cake dish in large shallow pan on oven rack; pour hot water into larger pan, 1 inch deep.
  • Bake at 350* about 45 minutes or until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Makes 6 servings

Whiskey sauce

  • In a small saucepan melt butter. Stir in sugar, egg yolk and water. Cook and stir constantly over medium-low heat for 5 to 6 minutes or until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Remove from heat and stir in bourbon. Serve warm. Ladle over bread pudding.
